Richard succeeded Katie Antypas as ECP’s hardware and integration director in June 2023. He has been involved with the Exascale Computing Project (ECP) team since the beginning of the effort and brings an extensive understanding of the various facets of application integration and software deployment.
He is senior science advisor and head of the High-Performance Computing (HPC) Department at the National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center (NERSC) at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
At NERSC, Richard has been at the forefront of providing scalable HPC consulting services to NERSC’s users, gathering and ensuring the implementation of the HPC needs of scientific communities.
As the HPC department head, he oversees the Advanced Technologies, Application Performance, and User Engagement groups at NERSC. In his role as senior science advisor, he coordinates science outreach and engagement efforts and helps communicate the value of scientific computing and science in general.
