ECP’s Software Technology (ST) research focus area is working on several elements of its Software Development Kit (SDK) initiative and preparing for the coordinated release of ST products for Q1FY19. ST also has started several new projects that will address functionality gaps identified at the beginning of the fiscal year. ST Director Michael Heroux chats about those subjects via an audio update.

Discussion Points

  • ECP ST has inventoried the collection of products to which ST contributes, and assessed the status and ongoing efforts for using Spack to build ST products. Spack is a tool that ECP has adopted that allows a tree of software capabilities to be built. The ST leadership team is defining the groupings of ST products that the SDK portfolio will comprise.
  • ST is preparing for the Q1FY19 coordinated release of ST products, including setup of continuous integration testing capabilities, release coordination staffing, and interactions with facilities where the software will be used.
  • The team has started several new projects that will address functionality gaps identified at the beginning of the fiscal year. New efforts will focus on fast Fourier transforms, or FFTs; multigrid preconditioners; and additional funding for product integration.
