Feature: Cartography of the Cosmos

John Spizzirri at Argonne National Laboratory writes about the “Computing the Sky at Extreme Scales” project, or “ExaSky,” one of the first efforts funded by the Exascale Computing Project. Led by Argonne’s Salman Habib, ExaSky simulates all the processes in the structure and formation of the universe, and is among the biggest questions, mysteries, and challenges that cosmologists are grappling with. “It’s like solving a very large physics puzzle,” Habib said.
